Sunset of Life

Just two weeks ago, we were able to visit my husband's uncle in Irbid, Jordan.  The roundtrip drive takes several hours so it is an all day affair.  On the way back to Amman that day, I was snapping pictures from the backseat window of the amazing sunset we were witnessing.
Our friend, Mohammed, found the perfect spot to stop along the side of the road so we could truly enjoy the spectacle.
THE SUNSET OF LIFE

In the sunset of life,
The shadows are dim;
The years orchestrated,
By life’s fickle whims.

Where once there was brightness,
A life filled with light;
It drifts toward the sky,
On shadows of night.

The sweetness of youth,
Is a memory now;
Yet holds all the sweetness,
My heart will allow.

For memories fade,
And 'tho time slips like sand;
My time is dictated,
By God’s simple plan.

In the sunset of life,
I have found joy and peace;
I shall celebrate life,
'Till my sunset has ceased.

This morning my husband's uncle passed away from prostrate cancer. He wanted to be at home with his family and that's where he was all throughout his illness and until he died.  We are grateful we were able to visit him one last time.

This morning in Kuwait, we are having our first truly cloudy day of the winter season.
A reflection of our current mood.
May he rest in peace.

Blessings,

Dear Tammy, knowing you took the time and visited your relative I'm sure brought him happiness in the sunset of his life. I pray he is in a better place and free from pain now. My sincere condolences to all the family and friends who will miss him.
The photos of the sunset, and you, in that particular area are just beautiful. You were certainly in the right place at that fleeting moment of the day. Like life, the sunset is over much too soon, beauty quick to leave, but memories comforting.
Love the words of the poem too.

Dearest Tammy,
So sorry for this loss and always complicated when it is across the border in another country.
Happy that you managed to be there in time, for that meaningful last visit.
Yes, my visit to The Netherlands was also because of my Dad's age, when your husband has his B'day, Dad will be 96... Living with CHF, I only have to be realistic for knowing that his time is running out.
But it gave me peace of mind for having been home one more time. Hard for having to deal with my final stage of grieving for Mom, being at their home where she is no longer... All others have lived towards that moment and were there all together for the requiem Mass but I had to deal with all of it long distance and on my own (at least from my side of the family). But I'm over it, that chapter is dealt with and life goes on.
Wishing you many more spectacular sun downs. What a lovely photos also the one with both of you in it!
Hugs,
Mariette

Please convey my condolences to Sam on the passing of his Uncle and your entire family. I am glad he was able to be at home. My Mother wanted that but I wasn't able to accomplish it in time.
The sunset is gorgeous....thank you for sharing it with us. I never see them anymore since living in a forest. What a great picture of you and Sam....you are a good looking couple and it's hard to believe you have kids in college. It must be the water there! LOL! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Dear Tammy, I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of loved ones and send condolences to you and your husband's family. The sunset photos are beautiful as is the words of the poem. I've appreciated the posts that I've missed. Each one is touching in it's own way especially the visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where you did a kindness by lighting candles and made a donation on behalf of your friend in memory of her parents. (It's a special place and I'm glad I was able to go there once in my lifetime). I know your visit there would have brought comfort to your friend. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a kind comment. It was so much appreciated. We too have had a family bereavement this weekend of a loved one in Italy and feel sorry that my husband and I are far away when the funeral was yesterday. It's another reason for feeling a need to be in a quiet, reflective mood at present.
