Simple Abundance and Sunday Spotlight

The 5/97 inscription on the inside cover of my Simple Abundance book says:
Tammy: Think of me as you enjoy reading this wonderful book!! Love, Angela

Angela and I worked together in New Orleans from 1991-1994 and have remained friends throughout all these years. Every January, I pick Simple Abundance back up again, think of my wonderful friend, and gain comfort and joy from its pages.

The opening page for January reads:

And now let us welcome the New Year
Full of things that have never been.

(Ranier Maria Rilke)

January, the month of new beginnings and cherished memories, beckons. Come, let winter weave her wondrous spell: cold, crisp, woolen-muffler days, long dark evenings of savory suppers, lively conversations, or solitary joys. Outside the temperature drops as the snow falls softly. All of nature is at peace. We should be, too. Draw hearthside. This is the month to DREAM, to look foward to the year ahead and the journey within.

The following lovely ladies are having giveaways. You can find them in my sidebar but I am listing them below and hope that you will pay them a visit to drop your name in the hat.

Jan at A Journey
Angela at Mouse House Tales and The English Romantic
Kim at A Gypsy Angel
Tammy at Tattered and Timeless
Cindy at Cindy Adkins Whimsical Musings
Encouragement is oxygen to the soul. Friendship blessings, Tammy

Dearest Tammy,

True friendship does never fade when miles are in-between! But such a book is surely a comforting underlining of such warm friendship.
Yesterday when I posted the blog about the flag that was flown over Iraq in honor of both of us, I thought about you as they took off from Kuwait... from Ali Al Salem AB.
Small world.
We've been in Kuwait too, at the airport.
Our driver in Indonesia used to work in Kuwait and when we left there, he and his wife went back to work there again.

Enjoy your daily treasures!

Hi Tammy,
If there was one book that ever changed my life, it was this book! It taught me how to have joy and keep it everyday of my life. It came to me at a time in my life when I didn't think I had the strength to do what I was now called to do. It made me believe that I could.
Wishing you the most wonderful year of your life, my sweet friend.
hugs

Happy New Year Tammy! It has been such a pleasure following your adventures in Kuait this past year. Your picture of the clouds moving across is really something! I am enjoying the cross stitch projects you are sharing, and especially thank you for sharing your friend's lovely gift. Blessing in the New Year! Elizabeth

Hi Tammy-I know I have that book somewhere here, but have never read it. I think I will start reading it. I love the passage you posted-so comforting and soothing, and just how I think January should be-nesting time!
Your story of the kitties is so sad, and it is so wonderful that you feed them. It breaks my heart to think of all the homeless animals. All they want is for someone to love them.! I've always gotten our doges from the pound, and always wanted to volunteer there. But I know I would get into trouble because I'd probably bring another dog home every day. I already got into trouble a fews years back when my family sent me to the pound to get a puppy and I came home with a 12 year old dog. I just couldn't leave him there-it was something in his eyes. We gave him five good years of love and attention, after he had spent most of his life chained outside. It sure was a good feeling-and we went back the next day and got a puppy, too! That is Miss Lola Mae whose picture is somewhere on my blog (she's cuddled up in bed).
I love hearing about your life in Kuwait!

I read your comment on Gail's blog about the kitties-it breaks my heart to think about it. So glad you do your part. I have 3 cats and 3 dogs-all rescue. It makes me mad that people won't get their animals fixed and continue to buy them when so many need homes. God Bless you!!!!

What a lovely way to remember a good friend. I love your tradition of reading this book every January. It used to be that the new year made me new sad due to the uncertainly of what would come in the new year. As I get older, I find I am looking forward to the new promises that the new year will certainly bring with it. I guess that means I am growing wiser...

Wonderful new years wishes to you and your family!!

Love,
Renee
